The Andhra Pradesh government is going to lay foundation stone for the construction of 125 feet tall statue of Dr BR Ambedkar at thegreen field capital city in Amaravati, on the banks of river Krishna in Guntur district, on April 14. The Minister for Social Welfare and Tribal Welfare, Nakka Ananda Babu informed that the statue along with Ambedkar Smrithi Vanam would be constructed on about 20 acre extent of land in the city.
He informed that the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would perform Bhumi Pooja on that day. He was speaking at an interactive session held with the SC and ST MLAs and other leaders of the concerned departments in Vijayawada on Saturday.
He informed that for Bhumi Pooja, the State government would bring water and soil from Ambedkar’s birth place at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh. He further informed that they also would bring water and soil from Parliament of India, where the Constitution of India was accepted which was written by the Ambedkar. He said that the place also would be finalised within a couple of days. Library, Open Air Theatre, Study Centre, Yoga centre and other facilities would be provided at this Ambedkar’s Smrithi Vanam for promotion of education and skills among the common public.
The State already allocated nearly Rs 100 crore in the budget for the financial year 2017-18 for construction of the Ambedkar statue and Smrithi Vanam. Meanwhile, Minister for excise K Samuel Jawahar stated that the State is happy to construct the Ambedkar’s statue at 125 feet height to commemorate the 126 birth anniversary of the leader. He said that this idea was the brain child of Chief Minister. He also added there was some correlation among the Amaravati, Buddhism and Ambedkar and hence their combination would attract national attention. SC Corporation Chairman Jupudi Prabhakar, Housing Board Chairman Varla Ramaiah, MLAs Uppuleti Kalpana, Sravan Kumar, Bode Prasad, Aditya, Tangirala Sowmya and others apart from the SC Welfare, ST Welfare departments officials were present at the meet.
